I got asked some time back to do a pilot for a web-series by Fox. They were looking to do something with their old Movietone Newsreels. I pitched, essentially, the Memory Palace with images culled from the decades-long sweep of these Fox newsreels. Problem was, none of them were digitized. Best I could do was pull this story together using content from a single episode of the Newsreel. The show didn’t go. But everyone was very nice about it.

The fact that this wasn’t picked up highly disturbs me. I love the effect the images add to the story and this remains one of my favorites.

  2. bryn says:

this was great, what were the songs used?

  3. judy says:

    Something to think about today.

Meaningful, yet… All the examples of war, yet nothing about the primary aspect of the war? Or… you could be looking up at the dismal sky watching and smelling your parents go up in smoke.

  4. Kara says:

Really well done. Your evocative writing was a great complement to the old footage.

  5. Tammy says:

Brilliant! Not a “fail”…well, not your fail – theres.

  6. Keith says:

The last song is “Song for Jesse” by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis from the Assassination of Jesse James. I was looking for that one and thought I would share.
